An invertor having an invertor, which can be modulated by a full-wave rectified reference voltage, and having a pole reversing bridge, by means of which those half cycles which follow one another with the same polarity of the output voltage of the converter can be joined together to form the desired alternating voltage. In each case one transistor and one thyristor are connected in series for each current direction in this pole reversing bridge. The transistors which are arranged in the pole reversing bridge are temporarily switched off during each polarity change of the reference signal, with the aid of a monostable multivibrator, the switched-on duration of the monostable multivibrator being dimensioned such that the thyristors which were in each case triggered last are turned off with certainty. <IMAGE>
