In the case of a method of filling air chambers (2) in hollow blocks (1) with a heat-insulating layer (7), the air chambers being separated from one another by longitudinal and transverse webs (6, 5), the heat-insulating layer (7) is pushed, as a complete unit, into the air chambers (2) in one operation. In the region of the webs (5, 6), the heat-insulating layer (7) is provided with auxiliary bridges (9) which can be separated off, the latter occurring when the heat-insulating layer (7) is pushed in. The heat-insulating layer (7) may be located in a securing means (11) which is arranged over the hollow block (1) to be filled and is provided with a feed and push-in device (12) for the heat-insulating layer (7). The heat-insulating layer (7) exhibits sub-portions (8) which are adapted to the individual air chambers and have auxiliary bridges (9) which can be separated off. <IMAGE>
