PURPOSE:To prevent electrolyte from penetrating into a catalyst body, and prevent any deterioration of the catalytic ability of the catalyst which might be caused during the preservation by charging a space formed between an air electrode and a generation element storage can with an inactive gas at a pressure level above atmospheric pressure. CONSTITUTION:A generation element, which consists of an air electrode 1, a separator 2 and a negative active material 3 stacked in that order, is installed in a storage can 4 which has an opened top and a bottom provided with perforations 5. A space 8 is formed between the air electrode 1 and the storage can 4. The space 8 is charged with an inactive gas, which consists of dry nitrogen, helium, argon, neon, krypton and xenon and doesn't contain any carbon dioxide gas, at one to two atmospheric pressure. |
