PURPOSE:To easily manufacture the closed end of a cylinder by forming an annular groove in an external periphery of the cylinder and applying an axial pressing force to the cylinder so as to make the grooved periphery inwardly project into an annular groove in a closing member tightly. CONSTITUTION:An annular groove 1a is formed in the external periphery in the vicinity of an open end of a cylinder 1 and an annular groove 3a is in like manner formed in the external periphery of a rod guide 3 acting as a closing member fitting in the open end. The rod guide 3 is then fit into the open end 1' of the cylinder 1. Thereafter, a pressing force is applied in th axial direction of the cylinder 1 by means of a press or so to project a circumferential wall opposite to the annular groove 1a in the cylinder 1 into the annular groove 3a in the rod guide 3 which is opposed to the circumferential wall in order to fit the projection 1b into the annular groove 3a in the guide 3. |
