PURPOSE:To obtain a durable medium by coating a specularly polished base material with a metallic magnetic medium, and forming a protective film by applying a solution of tetrahydroxysilane containing an organic corrosion inhibitor over the medium directly or with nonmagnetic metal interposed and then calcining it. CONSTITUTION:The base disk of a magnetic storage body is finished by mechanical work in such a way that the surface of aluminum alloy and titanium alloy has small external waviness. Then, the surface is coated with nickel-phosphorus alloy as a base material 2 by plating, and finished into a specular surface having <=0.03mum maximum surface roughness by mechanical polishing. This specular surface is plated with cobalt-nickel-phosphorus alloy as a metallic magnetic medium 3, which is further coated with a protective film 4. In addition, the metallic magnetic medium 3 is coated with the protective film with nickel- phosphorus alloy interposed as nonmagnetic alloy 5. The metallic magnetic medium 3 uses metal or alloy containing Co, Ni and Fe, and the protective film 4 is formed by applying an organic solvent of tetrahydroxysilane containing a corrosion inhibitor and then calcining it, thus obtaining a medium which has superior environmental resistance and wear resistance. |
