Karl-Fischer Reagent

There is disclosed a Karl-Fischer reagent which consists essentially of iodide, sulfur dioxide, pyridine and an alkylene carbonate of the formula: <IMAGE> wherein R represents a hydrogen atom and a lower alkyl group. The reagent is superior in its high stability and a low iodine content.
