<p>PURPOSE:To alleviate labor in forming and printing a document and enhance operability, by printing at an intermediate speed when an intermediate-speed condition is discriminated by a speed-discriminating means, and printing at a high speed under conditions other than the intermediate-speed condition. CONSTITUTION:In all cases where printing speed information is set to 'auto' except the case of an intermediate-speed condition, high-speed driving is commanded. Of format information stored in a format information storage area 26, the information on character gap, setting of enlargement, paper size and direction is used to discriminate whether character patterns to be printed in one printing line will be in a continuous form, in the case of discrimination of the intermediate-speed condition. When it is discriminated that the character gap is zero, the paper size is different from a normal one and printing for lateral writing is to be performed though the paper is to be fed vertically, a speed-controlling part 29B sends a command for intermediate- speed driving to a carriage motor controlling part 33. In other case, high-speed driving is commanded. During the period in which correction by accumulation of heat in a head 6A of a printer 6 is carried out, high-speed processing can be performed without need for consideration of the character patterns being in a continuous form.</p> |
