Hexahydroindazolo or hexahydroisoindolo isoquinolines of the formula <CHEM> wherein R is H, alkyl, allyl or benzyl; R<1> and R<2> are independently H, OH or alkoxy, with the limitation that when either R<1> or R<2> is OH, then the other R<1> or R<2> can not be alkoxy; Z is <CHEM> R<3> is H or -@-(C1-C2)alkyl; and the dotted line represents the presence of one double bond at either 7a-10a or 7a-8, having dopamine agonist and dopamine antagonist activity, are described herein. The compounds are prepared by reacting the the corresponding 8-dimethylaminomethylene derivative with a substituted amino. Novel intermediates are also disclosed. |
