PURPOSE:To prevent the failure of a machine by a dropped dummy bar surely by applying reverse torque to a driving device after pressurizing of pinch rolls in the stage of transferring the dummy bar of a top charging system continuous casting installation from the driving device to the pinch roll side. CONSTITUTION:Just prior to the completion of insertion of a dummey bar 1, pinch rolls 15 are lowered (in a closing direction) and the cylinder 12 thereof is pressurized with a device 3 to prevent the bar 1 from dropping. In this state, an operation checking command for generating the torque corresponding to the torque required for holding the own weight of the bar 1 for a certain constant time is emitted to a controller 14 of a DC motor 4 which drives a driving device 2 for the bar 1. If the reverse running torque of the motor 4 generated by this is larger than the pressurizing and holding force of the bar 1, the motor 4 runs reverse and pulses are emitted from a transmitter 11 coupled directly to this. A counter 10 counts these only during the application of the above-described command, and when the number thereof exceeds the set value, an output device 13 emits an operation fault signal. This is displayed, and at the same time, the forward running of the device 2 is closed to suspend the transfer operation of the bar 1, whereby the bar 1 is prevented from dropping. |
