PURPOSE:To improve the quality of products to desirable structure in the stage of charging molten metal into a mold consisting of the hollow groove of the outside circumferential surface of a rotary wheel and an endless belt moving in contact with the outside circumferential surface by specifying the leading end position of a transmission horn which applies ultrasonic waves into the molten metal. CONSTITUTION:A metallic endless belt 3 is moved with a pressure wheel 4 or the like in contact with part of the outside circumferential surface of a rotary wheel 1 for a mold provided with a hollow groove 2, whereby a mold 5 of which one end opens in a horizontal direction is formed. Molten copper or a copper alloy 7 is charged from a horizontal direction through the opening 6 in this opening part into the mold 5. Here, an ultrasonic wave transmission horn 9 connected to an ultrasonic oscillator 8 is inserted into the nozzle 6, and the leading end thereof is positioned just before the opening part of the mold 5. Ultrasonic oscillations are applied to the molten metal to act utrasonic oscillations at the interface of the molten metal where it beings to solidify in the mold 5. As a result, the part near the surface of an ingot 10 is solidified to a fine equiaxial crystal and the internal part to a columnar crystal, whereby the defects of the ingot surface are reduced and the quality of products is improved. |
