A flexible film to be applied to a more rigid panel while evacuating the interface is provided with local support across any local openings through the panel by controlled pneumatic back pressure. Suitable for applying decorative surfaces to liner panels for use in car bodies, aircraft or helicopter cabins, etc. esp. where the panels are predrilled to accept pushbutton studs. Pref. the level of back pressure is adjustable to suit the thickness or stiffness of alternative covering materials to prevent local puckering when applying vacuum to the rest of the area/panel interface.
