The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for toning the skin. According to this method, a sequence of pulses having a frequency ranging from 1,800 to 2,300 Hz is applied, with an intensity from 0.01 to 0.4 mA, the maximum amplitudes of the pulses being alternately of the order of 60 to 40 volts, while, over the skin, moving a mobile electrode (4, 6) impregnated with a cleansing and disinfecting solution, then an ionisation signal is applied; the apparatus is characterised in that it comprises an electrical pulse generator (1), fitted with two output terminals (2, 3), which is connected to two electrodes (4, 5) intended to be placed in contact with the skin, and in that it comprises means for emitting, as required, either a sequence of pulses, or an ionisation signal having a frequency ranging from 1,800 to 2,300 Hz, and having a positive excursion of relatively long period.
