A dryer employing a CaCl2 dessicant bed uses an induced draught fan to force air circulation through the dessicant. In order to prevent CaCl2 dissolving in the absorbed moisture, the dessicant is supported on a bed of inert but porous material e.g. coke, to absorb free moisture. When the bed of supporting material is satd. free water drops into a collecting area in the base of the dryer. The dessicant bed does not solidify due to liquefaction in the absorbed moisture followed by subsequent recrystallisation.
|
