The mechanism, for a mantle clock or a grandfather clock etc., comprises an analogue quartz movement and an electronic control module for the striking tone. Both of these are contained in a housing which has openings in its walls into one of which a control panel for the incorporated control module can be inserted. The remaining openings in the walls of the housing are closed by a closure plate. Pref. the openings are provided in the rear wall of the housing and in at least one of the sidewalls and the control panel comprises a number of switches and a printed circuit board. The mechanism is easily modified to fit a number of different clocks.
