<p>The connector is used for high pressure mercury vapour discharge lamps and has a supply circuit comprising a capacitor (C1) in parallel with the mains supply and a ballast choke (L1) in series with the tube, is characterised by having a second low value capacitor (C2) connected in parallel with the ballast. The second capacitor has a capacitance between 0.016pF and 0.020pF and for a 50Hz supply frequency its value is obtained from the relation L1C2 lies between 0.9 and 1.1 where L1 is the ballast inductance in Henries. The second capacitor lowers the extinguishing voltage threshold, allowing lower wattage running of the lamp.</p> |
