The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for producing groundwater wells and for lowering the groundwater level. When producing the groundwater well, preferably by means of slush boring, a protective tube (9) is sunk to the lowest groundwater level to be drained, on the lower end of which tube there is located a nozzle device (10) which, after the sinking procedure has finished and on simultaneous installation of the underwater pump unit (11) with the aid of a high-pressure liquid nozzle jet (10) up to 500 bar, preferably a water jet, breaks down, according to grain size, the solid-ground layers (1), adjacent to the protective tube (9), in a wide groundwater coverage range. The fine-grained fraction (2) flushed out by the nozzle jet (10f) is conveyed, in the annular space present between protective tube (9) and bore (7), to the surface, while the remaining coarse-grained fraction, as a porous, annular filter element (3), makes it possible for the groundwater (6) to be sunk to permeate and flow through the adjacent solid ground (1) to a large extent. The flushed-out fine-grained fraction (2) is replaced by the constant addition, which can be checked, of filter gravel (4) into the protective tube (9) from the surface, the filter gravel (4) being received by the filter element (3), with the result that a coarse-grained rock filter, which rests on the underwater pump unit (11) and avoids ground loss, subsidence and cavities in the well area, is maintained. <IMAGE>
