摘要 According to the invention, the two-electrode spark plug which is used to form the ignition spark is replaced by two electrode bodies which are separate from one another and project into the combustion chamber in the engine cylinder. The distance between the two electrode tips is 7...30 mm and the voltage of the ignition current [sic] which is used to form the ignition spark between these two electrode tips is 70,000...300,000 volts. The actual values of the electrode tip separation and ignition-current [sic] voltage are matched to one another and are defined as a function of the shape of the combustion chamber, the size of the cylinder bore, the fuel-air mixture ratio and the compression ratio. In order to ensure the ignition spark jumps over from the positive electrode to the negative electrode and that the ignition spark is not deflected by other electrically conductive parts in the combustion chamber, the negative electrode is subjected to continuous electrostatic charge. The advantages of the invention are: a) shorter overall duration of the combustion process as a result of combustion starting from a long ignition spark instead of a point-source ignition spark. b) Reduction in residues having hazardous material properties in the exhaust gases as a result of improved propagation of combustion in terms of speed and space. c) Achievement of constant engine powers with weaker fuel-air mixture ratios, that is to say a lower specific fuel consumption.
