The invention relates to a process for operating a circulating pump in heating systems. It has been shown, during the operation of heating systems with a mixing valve, that the drive motor for the circulating pump often breaks down. This is presumably attributable to the overloading of the drive motor, since during long standstill times, lime settles in the pump, and consequently a relatively high resistance has to be overcome when the pump is started up. In order to eliminate this source of risk, after a lengthy standstill time, when the mixing valve is in the region of the "closed" end position the motor of the circulating pump is switched on automatically for a predetermined time and is switched off automatically for a predetermined second time. However, when the mixing valve is not in the region of the "closed" end position, the motor of the circulating pump remains permanently switched on. As a result, the lifetime of the drive motor of the circulating pump is increased significantly, and there is no need to exchange the circulating pump even after only a few years or a short operating time, as has been assumed to be unavoidable hitherto. <IMAGE>
