A packaging for piece goods having an outer cardboard box, especially a self-erecting folding cardboard box, is provided with a box-shaped inner container (2) made of rigid expanded plastic, the outside dimensions of which match the inside dimensions of the outer cardboard box (1). The said inner container is to be composed of a few plate-shaped components. To achieve this, it comprises a floor part (3), a lid part (4), two side wall parts (5, 6) and two end wall parts (7, 8), the parts situated opposite one another in each case having the same dimensions and being identically shaped at their lateral edges. To permit joining of the inner container, the connection between the floor part and/or the lid part (3 and 4 respectively) and the side wall parts and end wall parts (5, 6 and 7, 8 respectively) is in each case formed by an insertion groove (9), which is provided with longitudinally distributed insertion recesses (10), in the floor part and/or lid part and by an insertion spring (11) which is moulded onto the facing edges of the side wall part and end wall part and has insertion projections (12) which are complementary to the insertion recesses (10), while the connection between the edges of the side wall parts and the end wall parts is by means of a plurality of dovetail joints having a direction of insertion which extends in the longitudinal direction of the side wall parts. <IMAGE>
