Self-locking braking devices for wheelchairs and the like, in which a braking body is pressed against the tyre by a brake lever, have releasable locking devices by means of which the braking device is held in the braking position. The locking device according to the invention comprises a clamping piece (11) which is provided with a hole, is articulated on one side and is tilted by a spring (13) against a linkage (8), passing through the hole (12) and connected, via the brake lever (4), to the braking body (5), in such a manner that the movement of the braking body (5) is free only in the direction towards the wheel (1).
