An optical reader for manually scanning a line- or bar-code (20), particularly in a radio and/or television journal, consists of a support frame (1) and a reading head (2) which is supported in a guide (10) of the support frame and is longitudinally displaceable and the scanning point (18) of which protrudes into a longitudinal slot (3) of the support frame almost to the surface (7) of the recording medium (8). The support frame adheres to the recording medium by means of a non-slip coating (6). The line-code is optically scanned through the longitudinal slot by the reading head during the displacement movement of the head on the support frame. <IMAGE>
