According to the teaching of the main application P 3102300.2, the program sequence control in a multi-program language-teaching system is effected in such a manner that the individual teaching programs can be both selected from the student's location and allocated to the students from the teacher's desk, distribution by the teacher always having priority due to a suitable combination of the control switching signals. The subject-matter of the invention going beyond this is, inter alia, that the program allocation selected by the teacher for the various students during the current teaching session is stored and thus also retained when the teacher temporarily interrupts this program allocation in order to insert individual instruction of individual or a number of students. Having regard to the central release of the student's cassettes by means of the "EJECT" key in accordance with the main application, it is also proposed also to provide for releasing an individual student's cassette while simultaneously operating the corresponding student's location key. Finally, the further proposal of the invention is also for triggering an individual tape rewind of a student's cassette with priority from the teacher's desk by operating the central tape rewind key in the teacher's desk in stop mode at the same time as the student's location key.
