The invention relates to a clamping plate for the support system in underground working for the preferably positive-locking connection to props or caps and for the frictional connection of a flange of generally I-shaped support-section segments by means of a clamp which is arranged on one side of a pressure plate and has a backing plate overlapping the I-section flange as well as clamps starting at the ends of the backing plate. The clamps overlap the flanks of the I-section flange from opposite sides and bear at least partly on the adjoining flange surfaces, in the course of which clamping which provides adequate security against slipping of the clamping plate from the I-section is provided in a simplified assembly. The clamping action is not impaired by the unfavourable surface condition of the I-section by virtue of the fact that the backing plate, with its parallel plates forming the clamping jaws, is combined in an elastic body which is provided at least with elastomeric surface layers and which, when a clamping jaw is held so as to be bent up out of its plate plane, can be slipped onto the I-section by inserting a bottom-flange flank between the other clamping jaw and the backing plate and, after the held clamping jaw is released, is locked by the spring force of its residual deformation.
