A gasifier according to the invention consists of a gasifying chamber (1) which is divided by vertical separating walls (2). The bottom (7) of the chamber (1) contains air nozzles (8). The separating walls establish passages and the chamber contains at one end of each passage a device (5) for supply of the half-comminuted solid fuel (6). The chamber (1) consists of a waste gas pipe (4) and of an opening (11) for ash removal. One application is the supply of fuel of one or more gas burners of a hot gas generator which was previously heated with burners for liquid or gaseous fuels. The invention is based on the principle of 2-stage combustion. <IMAGE>
