This invention relates to a centre-driven front-mounted mowing unit, especially for motor mowers, which is fastened to a supporting arm and in which a cutter drive having a deflector device for the mown mowing material takes place via a cutter head fastened to the mowing cutter and a driving journal, engaging on the cutter head and moved parallel to itself, of a gearwheel-type crank mechanism mounted on the supporting arm and having a step-up ratio of 1:2 or approximately 1:2. At the same time, the driving journal on the one hand is mounted rotatably on the crank arm of the gearwheel-type crank mechanism and on the other hand engages non-rotatably on the cutter head, and a mounting for a deflector plate forming the deflector device is provided on the driving journal between the cutter head and the gear-wheel type crank mechanism. The advantage affordable thereby is that, on the one hand, the pure translational movement of the driving journal mounted rotatably in the crank arm guarantees a very simple drive connection to the mowing cutter, of low wear because of the absence of relative movements in the cutter head, and, on the other hand, the mounting of a deflector plate on the driving journal thereby becomes possible. <IMAGE>
