In a video recorder with helical track recording, the audio signal (AF) is also recorded in the helical tracks by modulating a subcarrier (1, 2) within the frequency spectrum of the modulated video carrier. In addition, an unmodulated subcarrier (3) is recorded. During the replay, this latter carrier supplies an interference signal (Us) due to the head switching. This interference signal is subtracted from the audio signal in subtracting stages (27, 28). This eliminates the interference signal in the audio which normally occurs due to the head switching. <IMAGE>
