The invention relates to a refrigerator with two plate evaporators which are connected in series in a refrigerant circuit and are arranged in spaces separated from one another and of which the freezing evaporator assigned to the colder space is arranged spatially above the refrigerating evaporator and is connected to it via pipelines and the refrigerating evaporator is parallel to a vertical side wall. In order to ensure that a heating of the refrigerating evaporator serving for defrosting the ice deposit can be omitted or at least substantially reduced, the pipelines (7, 8) are connected to the refrigerating evaporator (9) in the lower region of the latter and are surrounded by a heat insulation (13, 14) over their length located in the refrigerating compartment (3). <IMAGE>
