A cross-cut and mitre-box saw is described, the saw blade of which is pivotably arranged in front of a stop arranged on the work-guide surface. Provided in the stop is a recess, preferably a continuous groove, which is directed towards the workpiece and with which it is possible to machine flat workpieces, such as boards, panels or the like, in a larger width at the same overall dimensions of the unit.
