The nozzle (3) of a blue-burning oil burner is surrounded by a burner tube (1), the cross-section of which is blocked off to a substantial extent by a burner tube lid (10) in the vicinity of the nozzle (3). The burner tube lid (10) has at its centre a central aperture (2) to permit the passage of the fuel cone. Deflection slots (8, 9) are provided alongside the central aperture (2), which permit a return flow of the fuel-and-air mixture into the nozzle-side chamber of the burner tube (1). This produces circulation, which in the final analysis increases the efficiency of the burner. <IMAGE>
