An oil/gas heating boiler having a combustion chamber which is directly arranged in the water chamber and a multiplicity of exhaust pipes which are guided through the water chamber and open out at one end into a flue discharge pipe, is to be improved by making almost complete utilisation of the heat energy available while keeping overall length low. To this end, the combustion chamber is completely closed on all sides except its bottom, which is situated opposite the burner connection side. Starting from a plurality of bottom apertures, deflection pipes having a larger cross-section than the exhaust pipes are guided to an annular space which surrounds the combustion chamber on the burner connection side and in which the exhaust pipes open out as well. This ensures that three regions are available for the transfer of heat. As a result, the temperature of the exhaust gas is much lower when it enters the exhaust pipes than is the case in previously known designs of heating boilers. <IMAGE>
