Iron oxide pigments with covering properties are obtained by combustion of iron carbonyl. For this purpose, the iron pentacarbonyl is introduced into a layer of iron oxides which is moved mechanically and oxidised to iron oxides at temperatures of 100 to 400 DEG C.
