An improved thread-type pipe connector especially suitable for releasably interconnecting sections of marine riser pipe, comprising a sleeve-type coupling element (1), a differential thread system (1a, 1b) for threaded engaging the coupling element (1) with two pipe sections (2, 3) in an end-to-end orientation, and a system of keys, fingers or lugs (4) and cooperating slots, grooves or pockets (5) that releasably interlock the two pipe sections in a manner that prevents their relative rotation in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction.
