PURPOSE:To prevent troubles such as the seating noise of a valve, by providing a plurality of grooves on the inside circumferential surface of the body of a tappet or on the outside circumferential surface of a plunger inserted in the tappet body, to early exhaust air from a pressure chamber between the tappet body and the plunger. CONSTITUTION:A plunger 16 is inserted in a tappet body 15, which is moved by the rotation of a cam 10. A pressure chamber 17 defined between the tappet body 15 and the plunger 16 at the side of the cam 10 is connected to an oil chamber 19 in the plunger through a check valve 21. Oil in a passage 20 is injected into the chambers 17, 19 through oil holes 23, 24. A plurality of air exhaut grooves 27 are provided on the outside peripheral surface 16a of the plunger 16 so that the grooves extend from the top part of the plunger near the pressure chamber 17 to the part of the plunger having the oil holes 24. When there is air in the pressure chamber 17 and the top 16b of the plunger 16 has passed by the hole 15a of the tappet body 15 after the insertion of the plunger into the tappet body in valve lifting, the pressure chamber 17 is connected to the grooves 27 to exhaust the air. |
