Terephthaldialdehyde monoacetals represented by the general formula: <IMAGE> (wherein, R1 and R2 are lower alkyl groups) are novel compounds, and they are produced by the reaction of terephthaldialdehyde with alcohols in the presence of a strongly acidic substance as a catalyst.
