PURPOSE:To provide a printer which is equipped with means to detect whether or not the paper is positioned at a printing position and driving means to drive the printing head to a specified position in response to the signal from the above mentioned means and in which the printing head moves to the printing position when the paper is inserted at a specified position. CONSTITUTION:In a printer such as a heat sensitive printer, an electric discharge printer, etc. in which the printing head prints in contact with the medium, a means 8 to detect whether or not a medium 1 is at a specified position, is provided, and the printing head 3 is driven to a specified position by the signal of existence of medium from this means 8. For instance, when the means 8 senses that the medium 1 (printing paper) has disappeared at the printing position, the energy to a solenoid 6 stops and it opens a holder 4 to widen its distance from the platen 2. When the medium 1 is set in this distance, the means 8 senses it and sends signal to energize the solenoid 6 and it closes the holder 4 and set the printing head 3 to the specified position. |
