PURPOSE:To increase the preservation performance and the liquid- leakage resisting performance of a battery by using a separator prepared by mixing thermoplastic synthetic fibers, and polyacrilonitrile fibers the surface layers of which are subjected to specific work. CONSTITUTION:After a positive mixture 2 is packed on the inner wall of a metal case 3, a gel-like negative body 4 is installed inside the mixture 2, with a separator 1 interposed between the mixture 2 and the body 4. After that, the case 3 is sealed with an insulating gasket 5 and a negative terminal sealing plate 6 provided with a current collecting bar 7, thereby constituting a cylindrical alkaline manganese dry cell. The separator 1 is made of a non-woven fabric prepared by mixing processed fibers 12, which are prepared by polymerizing acrylonitrile monomers into polyacrylonitrile fibers 10 by means of polymerization promotors such as potassium persulfate and acid sodium sulfite and by hydrolyzing the surface layers of the fibers 10 by means of caustic soda or the like, and thermoplastic synthetic fibers 13 such as polypropylene. In Addition, it is preferred that the above non-woven fabric is heated so as to make intersectional points 14 to be fused. |
