The process and plant employ an electrically heated die, the base of which contains numerous holes through which molten glass is drawn downwards to obtain fibres. One or more temp. sensors, esp. thermocouples, are fixed to the base of the die to detect the temp. of the glass outlet holes. The thermocouples provide an electrical signal representing the temp. of the glass at a partic. outlet hole. If the glass temp. obtd. is outside a predetermined range, an interruption to fibre prodn. is indicated, and a warning signal or alarm is triggered. If the alarm is actuated, either the electric heating current fed to the die is reduced, or the speed of the bobbin winding the fibres into a thread is reduced, or the bobbin is stopped. Improved control of the fibre drawing process is obtd., using the temp. of the molten glass in one or more die outlet holes.
|
