PURPOSE:To improve the connecting method of both fibers, by providing a means for converting an elliptical emission optical pattern to a circular pattern, on an elliptical core surface of the connecting end of low polarization and general fibers. CONSTITUTION:A small piece 5 of optical glass is stuck on an end 3 of a low polarization fiber 2 provided with an elliptical core 1. For instance, it is shaped to a semicylindrical convex lens 6 in the short axis direction of the core 1 by chemical treatment using fluorine. An emitted light beam 4 is shaped to a circular form, and is coupled with a general fiber easily and efficiently by the same means as usual connection of the fibers. Also, in the same way, a small piece 5 of optical glass stuck on the end of the fiber 2 is shaped to a semi- cylindrical concave lens 7 in the long axis direction of the core 1. In this case, too, an emitted light beam pattern 4'' is shaped to a circular form in the same way, and is coupled with a general fiber easily and efficiently by the same means as usual connection of the fibers. |
