PURPOSE:To carry out operation for sealing the opposite ends of heat exchanger tubes in a reliable manner at the time when the heat exchanger tubes are damaged, by projecting a nipple-like shell from the peripheral portion of an opening formed at the bottom of a semi-spherical shroud, and attaching an end plate to the bottom of the body of a heat exchanger in a freely detachable manner. CONSTITUTION:A heat exchanger of this invention comprises a tube plate 13 to which are connected one ends of a plurality of heat exchanger tubes 12 and a semi-spherical shroud 15 defining a gas inverting chamber 17 together with the tube plate 13. At the bottom of the simi-spherical shroud 15, there is formed an opening 15a, from the peripheral portion of which a nipple-like shell 16 is projected in the manner that it is unitary with the semi-spherical shroud 15. Further, an end plate 11 for covering the nipple-like shell 16 by the intermediary of heat- insulating members 19-21 is attached to the bottom of the body 10 of a heat exchanger in a freely detachable manner. With such an arrangement, sealing operation for the heat exchanger tubes 12 on the side of the gas inverting chamber 17 is performed after detaching the end plate 11 and heat-insulating members 19, 20 and cutting off the nipple-like shell 16. |
