PURPOSE:To reduce a drop of image resolution and to elevate an operation characteristic of an element, by providing a transparent insulator for introducing into a write ray, in a photoconductor. CONSTITUTION:This element is provided with an optical path which is on transparent conductive electrodes 101, 101', is provided with an islandlike transparent insulator 402 between said electrode and a photodonductor 401, and reduces intense light absorption against a write ray which the photoconductor 401, and reduces intense light absorption against a write ray which the photoconductor 401 has, and leads the write ray to the deep part of the photoconductor 401. When an electric field applied to the transparent conductive electrodes 101, 101', the voltage applied to an electric and optical material 2 is distributed in proportion to a value obtained by dividing the impedance of the electric and optical material 2 by the impedance of the whole system containing the electric and optical material 2, an intermediate layer 2 and a photoconductor layer 4. In this case, as for the impecance of the photoconductor layer 4, the smaller its capacity is, the lower voltage applied to the electric and optical material is, and the display efficiency of a dark state in case when there is no write ray is elevated. |
