A wheel is secured on a machine e.g. for tyre changing or wheel balancing by an upper rigid plate (30) and an inflatable air bag (31) or similar flexible medium where a generally annular configuration is provided mounted on a shaft (12) and a conical member (27) screw-threaded on the shaft. The air bag (31) engages the wheel and clamps it against a spring biassed cone 40. The pressurizable engagement between the undersurface of the air bag and the adjacent surface of the wheel serves to secure the wheel on the shaft. The air bag has an inflation valve 32 and a pressure relief valve 33, the latter being set so that the pressure does not exceed 15 lbs/sq. in.
