发明名称 SURFACE TREATMENT OF GLASS
摘要 PURPOSE:To manufacture glass with high surface smoothness by slowly raising the temp. of glass freed of the residual flaws by surface polishing, ion-exchanging the glass, and irradiating it with light or electron beams. CONSTITUTION:Glass surfaces are polished with fine abrasive grains to reduce the size of the residual flaws to <=10mum. The glass is heated to about 400-470 deg.C which is below the softening point at <=100 deg.C/sec temp. raising speed, and by heat treating the glass at the temp. for about 10min-1hr, the surface hydrate layers and the invisible flaws are eliminated, and the stress concentration is relieved to prevent the occurrence of cracks in the next treatment process. This glass is then immersed in molten KNO3 at a prescribed temp. for a fixed time to increase the surface mechanical strength by ion exchange, and by irradiating the glass with about 10w CW-Ar laser at about 500 deg.C for about 1sec, the diffused ions are implanted in the interior of the glass and stabilized.
