PURPOSE:To compress the file capacity of a dictionary for ''kana'' (Japanese syllabary)/''kanji'' (Chinese character) conversion by installing an overlapping character number part which indicates a part overlapping with ''kana'' of the preceedubng ''kana'' identification division in a series of words only by the overlapping character number without the use of a character code. CONSTITUTION:A ''kana'' character string inputted from a ''kana'' keyboard 31 is introduced once into an input sentence buffer 33 through a CPU 32. When an exchange key 31 is depressed, the CPU 32 refers a dictionary 35 according to a program in a processing program device 34 to convert the ''kana'' characters into ''kanji''. The dictionary 35 is provided with an independent word dictionary file 35A and a grammer information table 35B and the independent word dictionary file 35A has a format consisting of a word length part, a ''kana'' identification division and a ''kanji'' indicating part. The CPU 32 displays the 1st ''kanji'' fetched from a corresponding reference buffer 36 on a display device 38. When there are plural homophones, ''kanji'' is specified by a homophone selecting key 31C and the CPU 32 transfers the specific ''kanji'' information to an output sentence buffer 37. Thus, the dictionary 35, i.e. the independent word dictionary life 35A can be compressed. |
