A thread-cutting tool is proposed in which, according to the invention, the tool cutting edges having cylinder-barrel-shaped cutting crests form a stepped tapered section. Here, prolonged tool life, improved dimensional accuracy of the threads cut with the tool, and the use of the tool even in machine tools without leadscrew-controlled, accurate tool feed are achieved. <IMAGE>
