The invention relates to a levelling instrument in accordance with the principle of the one-man hose levelling instrument which consists of a reference measuring instrument, a reading-type measuring instrument and a flexible hose filled with a measuring fluid, connecting these two instruments, and is preferably suitable for levelling ceilings, particularly of suspended ceiling structures or the like, the special embodiment according to the invention consisting in that it exhibits a reference measuring instrument (1) which can be attached to the structural part (28, 41) having the starting level (+/-0) by means of a clamping claw (3) or the like and can be set to this starting level (+/-0) by means of a height adjusting device (11, 13), and a reading instrument (5) which can be attached to a structural part to be levelled by means of a gripping or tightening device (hanging-up clip 22). Particularly advantageous embodiments of the reference instrument (1), which can be mounted in the fastest possible manner due to the clamping claw device (3), consist in that the clamping areas (6, 8) and/or rear wall (26) of the clamping claw (3) exhibit longitudinal grooves (7, 9, 27) in each case extending in the same direction and parallel to one another, and/or at their free ends exhibit a nose section (38) extending in the direction of these longitudinal grooves and projecting from the clamping area (6, 8). A further particular advantage of the reference instrument (1) consists in that it can be pivoted with respect to the clamping claw (3) so that it is attached both to horizontal and vertical sections, pipes, rods or the like. <IMAGE>
