To avoid costly and space-consuming shaft structures or transition pipes of special design, the design of the transition between pipes, in particular sewer pipes, preferably of stoneware, of different diameter is effected by a shaped piece which has a short wedge-shaped transitional part forming the continuous transition between the nominal diameters in the direction of flow. The shaped piece having the wedge-shaped transitional part may be of an eccentric design. Seals for the joint to be made between the adjacent pipes can be provided at the shaped piece having the wedge-shaped transition part.
