The reaction material is spun out of the centre of the reaction space by centrifugal force against the outer wall of the reactor and fed back into the pool of the reaction material, during which, in addition, vapour-form alcohol from the lower region rises through the reaction space against the direction of flow of the reaction products. The reaction material is preferably mixed intensively and subjected to shear forces in the centre of a centrifugal or spray apparatus (16) in the form of a shear element, so that the reaction material particles spun through the dense alcohol vapour are provided with the largest possible reaction surface and drag along a fair amount of the alcohol vapour surrounding the particles so as to intensify and accelerate the reaction process.
