The erase head consists of a soft-magnetic main body (1), a soft-magnetic centre piece (2) and a coil (3). The main body is U-shaped and has the centre piece between its arms but not touching them. The ends of the arms curve in towards the centre piece. The coil is wound around the centre piece. The centre piece is also U-shaped (with a gap (5) between its parallel arms) and may be inserted into the main body either with its arm ends opposite the body's arm ends or with its spine opposite the body's arm ends.DS.
