In addition to the usual control elements, the electronic scales have a setting element which is set in accordance with the density of the item to be weighed. This setting device can, e.g., be a potentiometer with a scale. In accordance with the density set for the item to be weighed, the sensitivity of the scales is varied such that it is always the absolute weight which is displayed. This means that the computed buoyancy correction otherwise required is already carried out in the processing of the measured values by the scales. <IMAGE>
