Loops of this type were hitherto spliced or stitched manually onto the edge rope. In the process, it is not possible to obtain a uniform loading capacity of the knots connecting the loops to the edge rope. According to the invention, rope sections of the edge rope are passed through or are inserted into two half shells, and, after the loop is formed outside the connecting piece, the half shells are connected to one another in such a way that they lock the inserted rope sections in a fixed position.
